His family lived and breathed trucks. As far back as he can remember his childhood consisted of going to work in the woods with his father, who was a logging truck driver. During the summer of Mike’s 8th and 9th grade year he learned what it took to be a landing man as well as a choker setter. At the young age of sixteen, Mike successfully landed a cedar post contract from a large pole yard, McFarland Cascade Pole Yard in Sandpoint. During the winter Mike and his father had contracts with small local businesses to snow plow parking lots; roads and driveways. Mike graduated from high school in 1985 and immediately went to work operating a backhoe as well as many other types of heavy equipment. Between 1985 and 1986 Mike spent his time driving a self-loading logging truck. Then in June of 1986 he moved to Rochester Washington and became a partner in an underground utility & excavation company. During 1991 Mike’s partner bought out his share of the business and shortly after Mike went to work operating equipment for Morris Construction. The contracts he worked on were held with Centralia Washington Outlets Center / Andre’ Construction. In 1992 Mike began Gibbons Logging & Excavation. He initially started with private contracts and land clearing as well as log hauling contracts. Then in 1998 he started a log yard specializing in hard woods, where he was successful in creating private contracts not only in the United States but also contracting with foreign countries on timber sales. During the spring of 2000 Mike attended his first Big Rig race, until then he had no outside interests or hobbies. In May 2001 Mike traveled to Wenatchee Washington and the Tri Cities to speak with members of the NABRR, in order get the information needed to get started in the association as well as to build his first truck. It took the crew and Mike two and a half months to build the first truck #76 from start to finish. His first race was located at the South Sound Speed Way in Tenino, Washington where he finished 6th place out of nine trucks. In his second race, The Main, Mike placed second. After completing his first official year of racing Mike received the 2000 NABRR Rookie of the Year. In 2002 Mike and the crew started building the second truck. After completion of the new truck Mike placed 5th out of eighteen trucks in its first race. Since the start of NABRR fifteen years ago, the USA-1 team as of 2001 is the first American team to ever compete in this series. From 2001 – 2004 Mike was elected and placed in office as Director of US Operations. Through the recommendation of Mike Ryan and Strana Truck Racing, the Discovery Channel filmed a documentary during the 2003 racing season of the NABRR. A sample of Mikes driving can be seen in this documentary, the particular race mentioned took place in Calgary, Canada during June of 2002.
Driver: Jeff Swanstrom Truck: 68’ Peterbilt 359  Age: 36 Engine: 8V92 Hometown: Lacey, WA Trans: 14613 Occupation: Structural Technician Gears: 370 Rockwell Family: Dawn, Laurie, Dylan, Devin & Danielle Tires: 255 70R 22.5 Low Profile My Heroes: Dale Earnheart, Mike Gibbons, Dad & Sully Erna Biography Driver, Jeff Swanstrom was born Friday October 13, 1967 in Everett WA. Jeff continued to live in Everett Washington until 1975 when he moved to California to live with his father. Jeff was your typical kid; he played football, baseball and loved cars. His love for cars grew as he spent a large amount of his time watching and learning from his dad who built and sold Hot Rods. In 1981 Jeff began to create a network of friends all with the same interest in mind, fast cars! Jeff’s first car was a 1970 GTO red convertible! He then became very involved in Drag Racing. Jeff graduated High School in 1985 and shortly after he returned to Washington. He started working for a glass company and then a tire shop or two. He drove a tow truck and then eventually ended up back in a body shop working as a lead technician. While Jeff worked at the body shop he built several Hot Rods which he drove and competed in several local drag racing events. In 1997-1999 Jeff helped Quick Nick Behn with his street stock and sportsman track champion cars and then in 2001 Mike Gibbons asked if Jeff could fix some dents in an old beat up Peterbilt. Jeff decided to take on the task and later became a member of the Team USA-1 racing team. In 2003 Jeff took part in the building of the team’s newest truck, number 76. Much of Jeff’s drag racing and circle track racing experience was found to be extremely helpful and the 76 truck has really proven to be an exceptional racing truck. In 2003 Jeff had his first chance to drive and has been racing the Big Rig’s ever since. Jeff now drives the number 17 truck, the team’s very first official race truck. Jeff Swanstrom says, “I got caught up in the excitement and look at us now. Three trucks and a fanny kickin’ race team”. Jeff has won and placed in several races since the beginning of the 2003 racing season and he ended it with a bang as the NABRR 2003 Rookie of the Year!
Driver: Kevin Johnson Truck: 72’ Kenworth Age: 47 Engine: Silver 6V92 Hometown: Chehalis, WA Trans: Fuller 10 SPD Occupation: Owner/Operator/ Car Hauler for Allied Transport Gears: 370 SQMD Family: Carrie, Quinn & Tiffany Tires: 255 70R 22.5 Low Profile My Heroes: Biography Kevin Johnson was born in February of 1958; he comes from a farming family and a grassroots background. Kevin is a triplet in a family of seven. Starting in the 60’s Kevin began racing on dirt tracks throughout Washington. His interest in cars includes collecting classic muscle cars, 30’s coupes and vintage trucks as well as British imports. This is Kevin’s second season in NABRR series. He originally joined Team USA-1 as their official photographer and has since expanded his dedication to the team by becoming a driver in 2003. Kevin is the driver for the Team USA-1 number 7 truck. Kevin works full-time as an independent truck driver along with his older brother hauling today’s newest cars from port to port. He is also a Journeyman Electrician by trade. Kevin is currently married to his loving wife Carrie Johnson and has two beautiful daughters Quinn and Tiffany.
